About Sandy
When I took my seat as Chairwoman of the board in December 2018, I pledged to listen to understand, debate respectfully, and seek common ground. By building relationships and working toward consensus, we will move beyond politics and focus on what Lake County residents deserve—a government that works to improve the quality of life of its residents..
Sandy Hart has served on the Lake County Board since 2012 and was honored to be selected County Board Chairwoman by her peers in 2018. Sandy works full-time on the issues that impact Lake County. She chairs and participates on numerous committees and has many significant accomplishments.
Sandy is passionate about community outreach and volunteering. She currently serves on the boards of A Safe Place (the sole provider of services exclusively addressing domestic violence in Lake County) and Lake Bluff Open Lands (dedicated to protecting, preserving, and restoring natural areas).
Prior to her election to the Lake County Board, Sandy served for seven years in an elected position on the Lake Bluff Park District board, and in 2008 she chaired the referendum effort to build the LEED-certified elementary school in Lake Bluff. She continues to volunteer at the local schools and community organizations.
Sandy also worked at the Shields Township Assessor's office, where she gained firsthand knowledge of the property assessment process. She is a CIAO (Certified Illinois Assessing Officer) and brings this expertise to her work as a member of the Lake County Board. She shares her knowledge with residents by conducting seminars on how to appeal property assessments.
Sandy has an MBA in Marketing and Organizational Development from DePaul University and a BA from Indiana University Kelley School of Business. After working at Kraft Foods for 13 years, she left full-time employment to raise her family and become more involved in the community. Sandy and her husband Tom have three children and have lived in Lake Bluff since 2000.
